Rs 63 crore for erosion-affected areas

Krishnagar, Aug 10 (UNI) West Bengal Finance Minister Ashim Dasgupta today sanctioned Rs 63 crores for various erosion-affected areas in Nadia district.

He sanctioned the amount after surveying the affected areas, including Nabadwip, Santipur and Ranaghat.

Of the total fund Nabadwip got the lion's share of Rs 37 crores.

Official sources said the government desperately wanted to prevent the Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's birthplace from being washed away.

The Ganga, Churni, Ichhamati and Jalangi rivers have wrought havoc in the district swallowing vast tracts of land.
