Railway takes upf Rail line connectivity studies with Bhutan
New Delhi, Aug 10: The Indian Railways have undertaken feasibility studies for the extension of Indian Railway network from two locations in West Bengal and three sites in Asom to the nearest border towns in Bhutan, Minister of State for Railways R Velu today told the Lok Sabh.
These are an 18 km long line from Hashimara to Phuentsholing in Bhutan and bifurcation to Pasakha and the 16-km long Banarhat to Samtse line.
The other three locations from Assam are the 70 km- long Kokrajhar to Gelephu stretch, the 60-km long Rangia to Samdrupjongkhar via Darranga and 40- km -long Pathsala to Nanglam line.
The decision regarding establishment of rail connectivity between the two countries will be taken up depending upon the results of the feasibility studies, Mr Velu said in a written reply.
