Production of UCIL hampers as strike continues
Jamshedpur, Aug 10 (UNI) Production of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has come to a grinding halt as more than four thousand miners of four mines went for an indefinite strike since Tuesday night and staged a blockade before the main gate.
The strike was called by all the four trade unions including the recognised Jadugoda Labour Union demanding job to the son of a driver Balaram Singh,who worked at Turamdih mines and reportedly died on duty on August seven.
Despite several rounds of talks between the union leaders and the UCIL management since Tuesday night the impasse continued over providing the nature of job to the deceased's son,said R K Bhagat, president of Uranium Mazdoor Sangh.
About 4,200 miners of Jadugoda,Turamdih,Narwapahar and Bhatind joined the strike to press their demand.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed before the UCIL gate as the labourers shouted slogans against the management and the Rapid Action Force (RPF) was deployed to maintain the law and order.
