PM for Women's bill in next session of Parliament: NCW
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today expressed hope that the Bill on 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies would be introduced in the next session of Parliament, a delegation that called on him said.
The delegation, comprising National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Girija Vyas and members and representatives of prominent women's organisations, handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding introduction of the Bill at the earliest, NCW spokesperson Romi Sharma said.
''The Prime Minister expressed hope that the Bill would be introduced in the next session of Parliament,'' she said.
She said the Commission would also seek the support of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson K Rehman Khan and leaders of various political parties to build support for early introduction of the Bill in Parliament.
Left parties have been vociferously demanding, both in Parliament and outside, that the long-pending Bill be introduced in the current session of Parliament itself.
