PETA activists to demonstrate at Kolkata KFC outlet
Kolkata, Aug 10 (UNI) Imprisoned in a cage and holding a sign that reads 'KFC tortures chickens', People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA) activists will demonstrate outside the KFC outlet at the Salt Lake City tomorrow to protest the 'miserable' condition of chickens in KFC farms worldover.
PETA volunteers will distribute leaflet among passers-by detailing how how every bird that goes into a KFC bucket has led a miserable life and met with a frightening death, a PETA release today said.
The protest is part of PETA's worldwide campaign seeking to compel KFC to take steps to curb the worst abuses of chikens.
The PETA alleges that KFC's suppliers drug and breed chickens to grow so large that many become crippled from the weight of their massive upper bodies. It says chickens in KFC's slaughter houses often have their throats slit while they are still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks.
" So far KFC has turned a deaf ear to the pleas for improving its animal welfare standards from high-profile PETA supporters, including Pundit Ravi Shankar, Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney and VChrissie Huynde, " the release said.
