Opposition lashes out at Congress Govt

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Citing the Supreme Court order on the Delhi laws (special provisions) Act, the Opposition BJP today lashed out at the Congress Governments at the Centre and Delhi and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for having ''failed'' to protect the interests of affected people in the capital.

The order was ''a great reflection on the functioning of the Congress Government,'' Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi said, demanding an amendment to the Master Plan and an Amnesty Scheme passed through Parliament alongwith a Bill to stop the MCD's sealing and demolition drive.

''Delhities are paying for the wrong policies and the shortsightedness of the Congress Government,'' he added.

BJP state President Harsh Vardhan said it had become clear that the real intention of the Congress Governments was not to provide relief to the people. ''Otherwise the Central Government could have strongly submitted the case in the Court'', he said.

He pointed out that even eight months after the demolition and sealing drives were started, the Urban Development Ministry had failed to provide relief to the people even as Union Ministers S Jaipal Reddy and Ajay Maken as well as Ms Dikshit made ''loud claims about providing relief''.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) General Secretary and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the MCD Omkar Singh Thapar also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister. He said the Congress government lacked the will to ''present facts in the right perspective'' before the apex court.

In a separate statement, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ram Babu Sharma said the Central Government should now incorporate the recommendations of the Tejinder Khanna Committee in the 2021 Master Plan and notify it before September 15 so that the affected people get relief.
