No shortage of refund vouchers, CBDT

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) The government today said there is no shortage of refund vouchers and that reports that the Income Tax department is not adequately prepared to issue refunds are factually incorrect.

Apprehensions have been expressed in certain quarters of the media that the Income Tax Department is not adequately prepared to issue refunds for the reasons that the refund vouchers are not printed, there is no refund software, there is lack of computer network connectivity, etc, an official statement said.

These reports are factually incorrect as there is no dearth of refund stationery. Last year, as many as 38,83,600 refund vouchers were issued to all the Chief Commissioners of Income Tax in December, 2005. These refund vouchers are adequate to meet the requirement of refunds at most stations this year also. Further, indent for printing new vouchers has already been placed on the Security Press, Nasik, which will be supplied shortly.

All Income Tax refunds will be issued on schedule and there is no cause of worry on this count.
