No question of Cong's claim on late Chavan's seat: NCP
Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) NCP spokesman Dr Ratnakar Mahajan today said that there is no quesion of Congress's claim on the Rajya Sabha seat which has fallen vacant due to the death of NCP leader Vasant Chavan.
Dr Mahajan told reporters here that Chavan was one of the two official nominees of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) for Rajya Sabha and was elected unopposed alongwith five others.
He said now after his death there is no question of any claim being made by the alliance partner on that seat and NCP will declare its candidate at a proper time.
Incidentally, Congress-NCP are also at loggerheads over the Rajya Sabha seat that has fallen vacant after the death of senior BJP leaders Pramod Mahajan. NCP sided with Shiv sena-BJP to elect industrialist Rahul Bajaj as the independent candidate to the upper house.
This hurt the Congress and now the party is trying to stake its claim on Chavan's seat to settle scores.
According to political observers, Ms Supriya Sule, the daughter of Union Agriculture minister and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is tipped to start her political career from this seat. Ms Sule has recently joined NCP and was even appointed in the party's executive committee.
