MZP launches state-wide campaign on AIDS awareness
Aizawl, Aug 10 (UNI) In order to curb the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS in the region, Mizo Zirali Pawl (MZP), the largest student body, has launched a state-wide campaign against the deadly disease here today.
The campaign, funded by North Eastern Council (NEC), would cover all the eight districts, 28 major towns and all remote villages of the state, sources said.
The Positive Network of Mizoram (PNM) members, the people who live with HIV positive, also joined hands with the MZP to combat the disease, they added.
With 365 members and sub-headquarters in each district the PNM would help MZP to spread awareness among youngsters living in the state's far-flung areas.
PNM representatives have also appealed the students to make sure that HIV positive people are not stigmatised but rather given a chance to express themselves.
Mizoram State Aids Control Society in a latest statistics said more than 1000 were tested positive in the state out of which 40 per cent were women.
