MP 2021 envisages makeover for Delhi into a world-class city
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Delhi Master Plan 2021 provides for vision to make the capital a global metropolis and a world class city where all the people will be engaged in productive work with a decent standard of living and quality of life in a sustainable environment.
Union Minister for Urban Development Ajay Maken informed the Rajya Sabha today.
Apart from recommending provisions related to the planning process for critical issues such as land, physical infrastructure, transport, ecology and environment, housing, socio-cultural and other institutional facilities, it also made recommendations on relevant aspects of governance and management.
Replying to a question whether it was a fact that the master plan had been drawn up to develop the capital of the country and make it an attractive and beautiful place along with all basic infrastructural facilities, he said regular efforts were made by local bodies and government agencies concerned to maintain cleanliness and prevent/ remove encroachments in accordance with the provisions of relevant acts and policies.
Answering a question on the problem of parking in the city, he said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had suggested multi-level parking at six sites. While Delhi Development Authority had proposed such parking in its district centres.
New Delhi Municipal Council had set out various steps to create more parking facilities.
Mr Maken also informed Parliament that the Delhi High Court had ordered demolition of all unauthorised/religious structures within 300 m on either side of Yamuna.
In reply to another question, he said Delhi government had formulated a proposal to construct multi-storeyed tenements for slum dwellers.
