Monthly growth in telecom subscribers crosses 5 mln
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) While the subscriber base for telephony services continues to maintain an upswing at 15 per cent in July, fixed line subscribers have seen a decline of by 0.06 million.
There has been a addition of 5.22 million net subscribers in comparison to 4.80 million net additions during June, a TRAI statement today said.
Moreover, a total of 5.28 million mobile subscribers were added in July 2006.
At the end of July, total fixed lines were 47.36 million while mobiles were 111.23 million. The gross telephony subscribers in the country reached 158.59 million at the end of July as compared to 153.37 million in June 2006.
The tele density reached 14.40 at the end of July as compared to 13.95 at the end of June, 2006.
In mobile segment, 18.19 million subscribers were added during the first quarter of the current fiscal as compared to 7.62 million in the corresponding period last fiscal. The additions of fixed line telephony subscriber is only 0.58 million for the four months this fiscal as compared to 126 million during corresponding period last year.
The gross addition of mobile and fixed line subscribers in the first quarter of the current fiscal is 1877 million as compared to 8.88 million during the corresponding period last year.
