MATA urges TN govt to alter policies to encourage EPMU

Chennai, Aug 10 (UNI) The Madras Electric Trades Association (META) today urged the Tamil Nadu government to make policy changes to encourage Electrical Product Manufacturing Units (EPMU) in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, Association President Hukmichand D Shah said that the Indian Electric product manufacturing industry was a Rs 5000 core industry, but Tamil Nadu contributes very small percentage. This is due to the lack of availability of raw materials, the high taxation and the policies that affect the industry in the state, he added.

He said META is conducting its fourth mega exhibition 'ELECTRICA 2006' from August 13 here which would be open to business visitors like dealers, contractors, architects, consultants, builders and electrical engineers.

The exhibition will have about 100 stalls showcasing many new inventions and developments in electrical products in India.

ELECTRICA will provide manufacturers, traders, exporters, architects and the end users a platform to interact with each other, he said.

'Unbreakable bulb', one of the first of its kind in the world, is being showcased at ELECTRICA 2006. The bulb comes with a 5 year warranty. The exhibition would also showcase supreme wall box, made of PVC, used as concealed boxes for switch boards.

Apart from products made in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore and Ahmedabad, ELECTRICA would showcase products from Italy, Germany, Australia and Austria, Mr Shah said.
