Life convict granted bail to attend MBBS exams
Bangalore, Aug 10: A life convict in a murder case was today granted 12 days conditional bail by the Karnataka High Court to enable him write the MBBS examination in the city.
In his petition, Subash Patil said the Rajiv Gandhi University for Medical Sciences had permitted him to sit for the examination in the city, subject to adequate security, and sought release on bail.
Mr Justice N S Veerabhadraiah and Mr Justice Jawaid Rahim yesterday allowed the petition and ordered his release on bail from August 14 to 25 on furnishing a security for Rs 50,000 and a surety for a like sum.
They also imposed other conditions on Patil, including not to leave the city, and directed him to surrender before the court on August 25.
Patil had been convicted and sentenced to life for gunning down excise contractor Ashok Guttedar on June 16. He was also sentenced for lesser offences.
He had also filed an appeal against his conviction and sentence before the court and sought for suspension of the sentence, pending disposal of appeal. .
