Kerala oppn leader for white paper on economic condition

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 10 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today demanded the government to bring out a white paper on the economic condition of the state instead of making repeated statements that it was grim.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government was making such statements only with the aim of denying benefits to the government employees, he alleged, speaking after inaugurating the Local Audit Association's golden jubilee celebrations here. .

He said a white paper would clarify all doubts about the financial conditions put forth by the government and would also show that the money borrowed during his government had been spent for development works.

Stating that the state exchequer had a balance of Rs 290 crore when the United Democratic Front (UDF) handed over the power to the present government, he said the LDF was wrongly accusing the UDF of being responsible for such a grim economic situation. If it was so, why was the government not coming out with a white paper on the economic situation, he asked.
