Kannada in schools: K'taka HC stays govt order
Bangalore, Aug 10 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today stayed the enforcement of a recent order of the state government making study of Kannada compulsory from eight to tenth standards in non-Kannada schools.
The stay order was granted by Mr Justice B S Patil while admitting the petitions filed by 89 students (Vineeta Patil and 27 others of Miranda English School and A H Singh and 47 others of New Cambridge English School in the city) challenging the government order.
The petitioners said when the DDPI of the department had permitted them to take English as an alternate subject of study, issuance of the impugned order, dated May 25, was in violation of the permission granted to them.
The court stayed the order in so far as such stundets who had been permitted to take English earlier and adjourned furhter proceedings till August 25.
