Humid weather conditions persist in plains

Chandigarh, Aug 10 (UNI) Humid weather conditions persisted in Punjab and Haryana as rains eluded the twin states but pounded several areas in Himachal Pradesh last night.

Barring Panchkula area, which recorded moderate rainfall overnight, Haryana and Punjab regions had no rainfall activity.

Panchkula recorded 7.0 mm downpour till 0830 hours.

Several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, received moderate rain overnight, triggering fresh landslides and disrupting vehicular traffic on link roads and interior areas.

All rivers and rivulets in the state are swollen following excessive rains in their catchment areas in the past few days.

Moderate rain lashed Pandoh in Mandi district, recording 13.0 mm till this morning. Solang Nullah in Kullu district measured 9.6 mm while Bhang-Manali in the district registered 8.4 mm. Dhundi recorded heaviest 29.2 mm rainfall.

Shimla and upper areas of the district were also lashed by moderate rain. The capital town recorded 11.1 mm rain till this morning. Suni, Rampur, Kalpa and Barthin also had rainfall.

Several areas in Kangra district, including Nagrota Surian and Guler, also had moderate rainfall. Guler recorded 5.0 mm rain.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas also received rain for a brief period. The city with 0.6 mm rain overnight recorded the maximum humidity at 92 per cent and the minimum humidity at 56 per cent.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
