HC issues show cause notice to Bombay Hospital Dean
Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today issued a show cause notice to the Dean of Bombay Hospital, after the court initiated a suo moto writ petition based on a telegram sent to the Chief Justice in June.
A division bench, comprising Justices R M Lodha and N H Patil, was hearing the writ petition based on the telegram sent by a man alleging that his daughter was not being discharged from the Hospital though her treatment had been completed by May 15.
The petitioner, who is a labourer, had admitted his 12-year-old daughter in the Hospital in January for the treatment of leukemia (blood cancer). The bill for the medical treatment summed up to Rs 4.37 lakh of which the petitioner could pay up to Rs 2.8 lakh, while Rs 1.9 lakh was the balance amount.
The girl's father alleged that the hospital had initially asked him to pay for the medicine bills, while the hospital charges would be waived. But when he could not make the balance payment, the hospital authorities refused to discharge his daughter until he paid the dues.
