Follow due regulations before suspending cola co's: FICCI
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) In the backdrop of the Kerala Government announcing a ban on the sales and production of Pepsi and Coke, industry chamber FICCI today appealed for implementation of proper law and regulatory process before taking any decision on the issue.
''The drastic step taken by the Kerela Government will adversely impact the India's investment climate. Let us first ascertain violation of the norms and later suspend the company's operations,'' FICCI President Saroj Poddar told media persons here.
Taking stock of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report, Mr Poddar said that there must be a code of conduct for disseminating the results of investigation either from an NGO organised or from a laboratory.
In addition, the committee also recommended that the results must be validated so as to ensure transparency.
Mr Poddar will today submit a request to the Kerela Chief Minister to consider the due process and then take action on the companies.
FICCI Secretary General Amit Mitra said that two special reports received by the chamber from Vimta Labs show that findings by the New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) appear to be false and shall not be considered for drawing conclusions.
The Government should check the allegation through testing the samples in their own laboratories before arriving at any conclusion, he said, adding that many other industries including heavy chemicals, pharmaceutical may also be questioned.
