Flood situation grim in Pandharpur, Nanded
Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) The flood situation remains grim in Pandharpur and Nanded as the water level at Pandharpur is at 3.8 meters above the danger mark while in Nanded the water level is at 350.7 meters.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Nanded tomorrow.
According to official sources, 3.2 lakh cusecs of water was discharged from Ujani and other dams due to which the flood situation has arised.
Meanwhile, the death toll has reached to 144, with 87 people still missing. In all, 4.56 lakh people were affected due to the floods and rainfall. In all, 5,421 villages in 161 talukas of 26 districts were affected.
On the other hand, the discharge of water from the Tapi river to Ukai dam, which was 13 lakh cusecs yesterday, was reduced to six lakh cusecs today with an improvement in the situation. Almatti dam is also releasing 2.78 lakh cusecs of water but there is no backwater problem and the situation in Kolhapur and Sangli is improving.
Meanwhile, 912 medical teams are working in various flood-affected villages. The task of purifying the well water is going on. Every day water of over 1,700 wells is being purified, while at 29 places potable water tankers have been sent.
''There is no epidemic in any part of the flood-affected areas.
The public health situation of the entire state in in control,'' according to Public Health Director Prakash Doke.
