DHD worried over NSCN activities

Guwahati, Aug 10: Dima Halao Daogah (DHD), the militant group maintaining ceasefire with the Centre, wants NSCN to go out of North Cachar Hills district and demanded immediate setting up of border outposts.

DHD Chairman Dilip Nunisa alleged that the Centre and the state government had turned a blind eye towards the NSCN activities inside Asom.

''This has caused great tension amongst the Dimacha people as the NSCN continues to lord over a large portion of our district and we are not allowed to move out of the designated camps,'' he said.

The NSCN has substantial presence in the entire area and they specially use the Laisong area as a transport corridor to Bangladesh.

''Everybody in the NC Hills are joining us in demanding BOPs in the inter state border. But for some strange reasons the demand is not heeded by the authorities,'' he alleged.

According to DHD, the setting up of BOPs would have restricted the NSCN movement across Asom border. The NSCN consider the part of NC Hills as their greater Nagalim.

''If the Centre is thinking that nobody from the NC Hills will raise their voice if such demands are acceded, then it is wrong. We are not going to take it low,'' he said today.

Mr. Nunisa alleged that NSCN is having large presence in the Lodi village which is just a few hundred meters away from the Asom Rifles Camp. ''What is most surprising is that with such impunity the NSCN and the sister militants groups are roaming openly in NC Hills district when there are security forces everywhere. We want peace and we have entered into ceasefire,'' he said.

According to Mr. Nunisa, the warring Hmar People Convention (HPC) and the Black Widow groups were brought together under one platform by the NSCN to destroy the DHD in the NC Hills district.

''They did the same thing using the Black Widow group against the innocent Karbi people. They were successful in flaring up the Karbi-Dimacha riot. The idea is to remove the Dhansiri camp of the DHD so that hegemony of NSCN can run in the entire area,'' he said.

The DHD is the only militant organization in the Karbi Anglong-NC Hills district which is opposing the NSCN. ''The NSCN is working with a design to expand their territories. With the help of Black Widow group they threw grenade at Maibong, Haflong and now in Mahur.

But not a single person was picked up'' he said.

He reiterated that DHD want peace and real power to the people of the NC Hills.

''We agreed to ceasefire and is negotiating with the Centre but the presence of NSCN and their two sister organizations would jeopardize the whole peace process,'' he said.
