Coal reserves of 61,999 mn tonnes estimated in Orissa
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) A total of 61,999 million tonnes of coal reserves is estimated in Orissa as on January 1, 2006.
Of this, 16,911 million tonnes are in proved category, 30,793 million tonnes in indicated category and 14,295 million tonnes have been inferred, the Geological Survey of India (GSI), a subordinate organisation of the Ministry of Mines, has estimated.
The quality (grade) of coal in proved and indicated category has been assessed whereas the estimation of grade in inferred category is not undertaken. The coal occurring in Orissa is the non-coking type.
This information was given by Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha today.
