Chikungunya cases come down in Andaman and Nicobar
Port Blair, Aug 10 (UNI) The Chikungunya cases have come down considerably as the disease was brought under control by active surveillance and organising medical camps at various places in the Union Territory, Health Department here said today.
A release from the Directorate of Health Service said the OPD attendance in the G B Pant Hospital has been on decline.
Distribution of drugs and on the spot treatment was provided through mobile dispensaries by the staff of the department, it said.
According to it, blood samples were collected and sent to RMRC, Port Blair and other batches of blood samples were sent to NIV, Pune through nodal officer.
Besides, health education was also being given to the general public in the camps to create awareness on Chikungunya and its prevention.
Meanwhile, elaborate anti-mosquito activity like anti larval measures and fogging activities were carried out at various places in the town in the evening hours to control mosquito breeding, the release added.
Chikungunya, a disease till now unknown to the people of Andaman and Nicobar, had struck the islands a month back.
