Big Bazaar tightens security for 'Freedom Weekend'

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Notwithstanding the mad rush seen on January 26 this year, when people across the country flocked in groups at all the outlets of Big Bazaar, the retail major has again come up with its 'Freedom Weekend' offer to lure shopping maniacs, from August 12 to August 15.

Following the response obtained on the 'Sabse Sasta Din' (Maha Savings Day) offer at Big Bazaar outlets on Republic Day 2006, Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd has initiated several measures to ensure that their team manages to cope up with the hordes of customers, expected to come during the Independence Day weekend, the company said today.

It has deployed additional security personnel, who will ensure that shopping takes place in an orderly manner. Specified time slots will be given to certain regular customers.

In case of a heavy rush, the coupon system and other pro-active steps will be taken to control crowding or any untoward incident.

The Big Bazaar team will carefully track the number of people flocking the outlets in order to prevent chaos, Pantaloon Retail President (Marketing) Sanjeev Agrawal said.

Additional billing counter staff has been deployed to ensure quick service. The team will be taking several proactive measures to prevent the occurrence of any untoward or unfortunate incident.

During the four-day shopping spree, Big Bazaar will offer an array of attractive mega deals that will ensure that consumers make a beeline for the stores.

Big Bazaar will carry a family offer, which gives a customer the liberty to choose across apparel. The 'Family Offer' comprises 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' across ladies', men's and kids' apparel.

In consumer electronics, Big Bazaar will offer a Channel Home Theater with remote control and 5.1 Channel DVD player at Rs 3,590 only.

In home furnishings, the company has a 'Bedroom Package', including Queen Bed with storage, three-door wardrobe, dresser with stool, night stand and mattress, at a special price of Rs 24,499 only instead of Rs 40,000.

In mobile handsets, the Motorola C 168 Colour phone with FM will be available at a price tag of Rs 2,690 instead of Rs 3,178.

There will be a special 40 per cent off on selected pieces of American Tourister Luggage.

Special 10 to 15 per cent discounts will be available on the regular prices of all the products.
