Agitating lawyers to observe 'Jammu Bandh' tomorrow
Jammu, Aug 10 (UNI) Agitating lawyers here have decided to observe 'Jammu bandh' tomorrow against the alleged denial of right of defence to the accused in the controversial sex scandal case in the Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, work in the local bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court and other lower courts remained paralysed with the lawyers strike continuing for the 44th consecutive day today.
Various trade and transport organisations have extended their full support to the bandh call given by Jammu Bar Association (BAJ).
Agitating lawyers and their supporters have decided to stage 'chakka jam' in Jammu and not to allow any passenger vehicles to ply on the roads.
The meeting between the lawyers and Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan remained inconclusive. They had also turned down the request of deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig to call off their strike.
''The general body meeting which was held today to discuss the request of the chief justice has been deferred till Saturday,'' BAJ president Veer Raj Wazir told UNI today.
The association has been demanding transfer of cases relating to the sex scandal in the Kashmir valley to Jammu. They have been boycotting court proceedings since June 28.
