Acrimony in Bihar assembly over Amir Das Commission

Patna, Aug 10 (UNI) Acrimony prevailed in Bihar assembly today following heated exchange between the treasury and opposition benches over revival of the Amir Das Commission after forcing the adjournment of the House for half-an-hour before lunch.

During the zero hour, Mr Arun Singh of CPI(ML) said that Amir Das Commission was constituted after the Bathe massacre with some aims and objectives. The Commission was dissolved by the new government without fulfilment of those objectives, he added, demanding revival in the interest of the poor.

The MLA further said that the dissolution was aimed at protecting the Ranveer Sena. After RJD's Shakeel Ahmad Khan said the Commission was constituted to probe the links of politicians with the Sena, opposition members were on their feet and questioned the intentions of the government following which noisy scenes were created for a few minutes.

The situation changed when Urban Development Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey mocked the opposition, saying the government was now for the poor and instead of Amir Das there was a need for a Garib (Poor) Das'' commission. He wondered why the previous government had not submitted the report of Amir Das Commission and who had restrained them.

Mr Choubey was joined by his colleague and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh. Things worsened when Mr Khan said a senior BJP leader at that time had written a letter in order to protect the Ranveer Sena. At this a furious Mr Choubey challenged the opposition to prove the allegations and a heated exchange between the treasury bench and RJD members continued for a while.

Meanwhile, agitated RJD members trooped to the well which led to the adjournment of the House till lunch.
