30 new colleges to be set up in Bengal
Barrackpore, Aug 10 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said 30 new colleges would be instituted in the state during the current financial year.
The state government had decided to set up these colleges to cope up with growing demands of higher education of our students, he added.
Inaugurating the new building of the 42-year-old Mrinalini Dutta Mahavidyapith college at Birati in North 24 Parganas district, the Chief Minister said his government had been sparing no pains to improve higher education.
He, however, had no hesitation in mentioning that West Bengal was yet to fulfil its mission both in the case of eradication of illiteracy and achieve its goal in the case of Sarva Siksha Aviyan, launched a few years back.
Mr Bhattacharjee admitted that Kerala had achieved distinction in staying at the top of the national list as the missionaries had worked hard for a long time to educate the Kerala people.
The Chief Minister echoed with the Nobel laureate Prof Amartya Sen for stressing on the improvement of education from the primary to higher level along with successful land reform to develop the state all around.
