1000 Mizo cops to fight Naxalites in Chattisgarh
Aizawl, Aug 10 (UNI) The Mizoram government will send several hundred state police personnel from IR battalion to fight naxalites in Chhattisgarh.
Additional Superindent of Police Lalthan Mawia told UNI here today that about 800 policemen, from IR battalion, were now undergoing training on counter insurgency operations at Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare (CIJW) school at Vairengte.
The CIJW course would give a comprehensive idea on how to tackle insurgency operations especially in the plain areas, he said adding all the trained cops would be sent by the end of November.
Mawia said that the cops would be accompanied by cooks and others during their stay in Chhattisgarh.
However, the Former Underground Welfare Society (FUWS) and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the largest student body, have expressed concern over sending inexperienced and inadequately trained police force to fight the naxalites.
