New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Extending full support to the formation of a separate Telangana state, former Prime Minister V P Singh asked the government that carving the new state was an 'inescapable necessity' as it comprised the commitment made by the UPA government the people through its Common Minimum Programme.

In his letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Mr Singh said in continuation of his earlier letter on May 25 last year, he once again asserted that there was an urgent need of taking steps for formation of Telengana state without 'any further loss of time".

The Sub-Committee constituted by the UPA under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to ascertain the views of all political parties and 'opinion expressed by them is overwhelming in support of the formation of Telangana state", Mr Singh said.

"With the recent decision of the National Executive of BJP supporting the separate Telengana state and with the understanding of the Congress Party in favour of it, the proposal for the formation of the new state is sure to get an overwhelming support in the Lok Sabha", Mr Singh said.

He reiterated that this concensus expressed in favour of the new state is unique and unprecedented.
