Violations of red beacons causes concern in Mizoram

Aizawl, Aug 09 (UNI) Mizoram Transport Commissioner has recently issued a notice on the violations of red beacons atop vehicles of top government officials.

The state transport department said the police and other security forces like Asom Rifles and BRTF were constantly misusing the red lights on their vehicles.

''Most security forces have their own flag cars and this may have given them the impression that they are eligible to have such lights on them,'' officials of the department added.

However, the Centre is 'very sensitive' about this and has entitled very few people to have this priviledge, sources said.

They also held responsible the leniency of the state government that had allowed government secretaries to use the red lights on their vehicles.

They also clarified that deputy commissioners and superintendents of police were also not eligible to use such lights anywhere except within their jurisdiction. Only the DGP was allowed to use it throughout the state.
