Two killed as locomotive hits two-wheeler

Pondicherry, Aug 9 (UNI) Two persons, riding on a moped were killed when an electric locomotive rammed into the two-wheeler at an unmanned level crossing here today.

According to police, Ravichandran and Ragothaman drove their moped onto the railway track at the unmanned level crossing at Sultanpet here without noticing the approaching engine.

While, Ravichandran died on the spot, Ragothaman, who was rushed to the government general hospital was declared brought dead.

Congress member Namasivayam raised the issue during zero hour in the territorial assembly and urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take steps with the Railways Ministry to instal gates at the level crossing and to provide adequate solatium to the families of the deceased.
