Somwarpet police station gheraoed

Madikeri, Karnataka, Aug 9 (UNI) The residents of Hanagal village near Somwarpet gheraoed the Somwarpet police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused in an assault case, yesterday.

The agitators threatened not to move from the police station till Hanagal village panchayat member Raju Ponnappa, Umesh, Jagadish and Ramakrishna were arrested on the charge of assaulting a canteen owner in the village, B V Suresh, and his friend Alwin using hockey sticks and weapons.

The injured were admitted to hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jairam assured the agitators, including women, that all the absconding accused would be arrested soon, following which they dispersed.
