Sensex trades 143 pts up at 11,157.54 in noon trading
Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) The BSE Sensex was up at 11,157.54 points, surging by 143 points from the the previous close, in the intra-noon trading on account of strong performance of the midcap and smallcap sectors, where the gains were almost equally distributed.
Major sectoral indices, too, firmed up on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), especially the banking, IT, FMCG and pharma sectors.
Asian benchmark indices were also trading in the green as the traders took respite from the fact that US Fed decided not to hike rates this time. The rate hike helps in outflow of money from the emerging markets like India.
Major gainers on the index in the intra-noon trade were - Tata Motors, SBI, ITC, Satyam Computers, Maruti Udyog and Dr Reddy's Lab, all up between 2.16 and 3.93 per cent.
Major loser was HDFC bank, down 0.39 per cent.
