Rains abate in Mumbai; Met forecasts heavy rains in Konkan region

Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) After four days of unabated rains, the Island city is finally having a sign of breather from showers on Rakshabandhan today.

The met department forecasts spells of rains or thundershowers with a possibilty of few heavy falls in parts of the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours.

Rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in Colaba, South Central Mumbai and the suburb of Santacruz was 25.7 mm and 104.2 mm respectively.

All suburban trains plying through Central, Western&Harbour lines are running on schedule, informed Railway Control Room sources.

Road traffic in the city and suburbs have returned to normal flow. Subways in Andheri, which was closed till last evening is now open to normal traffic, said traffic sources.

Complaints and incidents of tree uprooting has also not been reported in the last 12 hours, said fire brigade sources.

Meanwhile, the Met department has issued an alert in the Konkan region of more heavy rains in parts of the belt in the next 24 hours.
