Rain-related toll rises to ten in Nashik
Nashik, Aug 9 (UNI) The death toll in rain-related incidents in this district has risen to ten after bodies of three people, earlier reported as missing, were traced today. One person is still reported missing.
Meanwhile, the army is rendering yeoman service in assisting the district administration in rescuing stranded villagers. About 141 stranded people have been rescued from the villages of Chanduri, Saikheda, Pimpalgaon and Sundarnagar.
The incessant rains have damaged 2357 houses in the district, according to district collector S Chokkalingam. The collector told reporters here this evening that 22,389 cusecs of water are being discharged from the Gangapur dam. The discharge from the Darna dam was 31,714 cusecs while it was 89,109 cuses from Palkhed.
State PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today held a meeting with Government officials and took stock of the situation.
Igatpuri taluka in the district recorded the highest rainfall of 174 mm today while Peth and Trimbakeshwar recorded 152 mm and 135 mm rains respectively.
