Punjab gives Rs 204 crore to 10,222 riot victims' families
Chandigarh, Aug 9 (UNI) The Punjab Government had disbursed 204.44 crore rupees as rehabilitation grant to 10,222 families of victims of 1984 riots till date, said Revenue, Rehabilitation, Relief and Resettlement Minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa here today.
He said that another 1523 cases would be given the grant shortly.
The Minister informed these grants were being provided under the rehabilitation package announced by the Government of India to compensate the victims of 1984 riots with two lakh rupees each.
Mr Randhawa said that a total 15,254 such claims were received from the Deputy Commissioners throughout the state. Out of which 11,745 claims were settled and 2,038 claims were rejected while 1,079 claims were still under consideration.
He assured that the remaining cases of disbursement pending with Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar, Ludhiana and Mohali besides other under consideration cases would be disposed of very shortly.
He further informed that the state government had also provided 269 jobs and 2,471 houses or flats to the riot victims in the state till date. Out of which maximum 86 jobs and 919 houses or flats were provided in Jalandhar and Mohali districts respectively and 206 such families was allotted plots in various districts. Similarly, commercial properties and marriage grants have been provided to 999 and 140 riot affected families in the state.
Maximum 201 plots and 56 marriage grants in Ludhiana and 430 commercial properties in Amritsar have been provided, he added.
He mentioned that the state government was also providing subsistence allowance at the rate of Rs 2500 per month to the 300 riot affected widows.
