Poverty-stricken farmer commits suicide with 2 children
Lucknow, Aug 9 (UNI) Abject poverty forced a farmer and his two children allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Sarnath area of Varanasi district in Uttar Pradesh.
Another child was battling for life at the district hospital, police said here this evening.
According to reports, Chhotu Yadav of Chhanhi village could not afford to buy his daughter Kaushalya 'rakhis' on the occasion of rakshabandhan.
When Kaushalya insisted, Chhotu thrashed her, while his wife was away working in the field.
Later, Chhotu and his three children consumed the poison.
The deceased were identified as Chhotu, Kaushalya and Raju.
Meanwhile, the district administration had assured financial help to the victims' family.
