Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) BCCI executive secretary Professor Ratnakar Shetty today said that the cricket board has sanctioned upto Rs 25 crore to renovate the Wankhede stadium prior to the 2011 World Cup.

Speaking at the National Sports Seminar organised by the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) here today, Prof Shetty, who is also the treasurer of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) admitted that the Wankhede stadium was way short of the guidelines set by the ICC to be able to host World Cup matches.

Asserting that the current regime is putting a premium on infrastructure, Prof Shetty said he had a meeting with BCCI Chief Sharad Pawar yesterday on the ways and means to improve the stadium and bring it up to World standards.

Prof Shetty also informed that the new premises for the head office of the BCC are nearly ready and the shift will take place in October-November this year.

The office which is at present housed in the North Block of the Brabourne stadium will be shifted to the Wankhede stadium complex by October-November, he added.

Prof Shetty also said that they would also be setting up a museum in the new premises and a collection of rare cricketing artefacts are in the process of being acquired from their present owners.
