Mathematician chosen for Kalpana Chawla Award
Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has chosen a noted mathematician for the Kalpana Chawla Award, instituted in memory of the late astronaut.
Dr W P Vasantha Kandasamy, who is on the faculty in IIT, has bagged the award for her contribution to Mathematics.
The award, carrying a medal and a cash prize of Rs five lakh, would be presented during the Independence Day function here, an official release said.
Dr Vasantha, who has published many books in Mathematics, had been fighting for backward class reservation for lectureship in the IIT, it said.
