JD(U) stages dharna against the Centre's anti-people policy
Kolkata, Aug 9 (UNI) State Janata Dal(United) activists organised a day-long-dharna in protest against the Centre and state government's anti-people policies and mark the 65th anniversary of Quit India Movement Day today.
Addressing a rally here, JD(U) general secretary Ashoke Das criticised the UPA government's silence over Israel's bombing on Lebanon and demanded that the United Nations should step in immediately to prevent the Israel-US axis from destroying the sovereignty of Lebanon.
Mr Das also charged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for obeying US diktats by remaining mum on Israel's actions.
The UPA government should withdraw from the nuclear deal with the US, he demanded.
''We also protest the state government's decision to acquire agricultural land for industries, which would create rapid unemployment in the state,'' Mr Das added.
