Government Approves five SEZs for Orissa

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) The Board of Approval under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry at its meeting held here last evening has gave its in-principle approval for setting up five Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Orissa.

According to communication received from the Orissa Government, of these five, three are for manufacturing sector and two SEZs are Information Technology sector.

The first SEZ is for Aluminium and Aluminium products including downstream industries proposed by Vedenta Alumina Limited to be set up in Jharsuguda at about 347 hectares of land with an estimated investment of Rs 5,742 crore.

The project is expected to generate employment for 7,000 persons.

The second one is also for Aluminium industry to be developed by Hindalco Industries Limited at 855 hectares of area in Sambalpur with an estimated investment of Rs 3,909 crore with employment potential of 8,000 persons.

The third SEZ pertains to beach sand mineral processing (Illemine to Titanium sponge stage) to be developed by Saraf Agencies Pvt Ltd at Chhatarpur in Ganjam district. The project will be set up on an area of 230 acres with an estimated investment of Rs 1,300 crore and employment potential of 2,200 persons.

Apart from these manufacturing SEZs, an additional 250 acres would be developed for downstream industries.

The fourth SEZ pertains to four million Square feet area built-up space primarily for IT sector to be developed by DLF Ltd in an area of 54 acres in Bhubneshwar with an estimated investment of Rs 738 crore and employment generation opportunity of 4,200 persons.

The fifth one is Business Processiong Office (BPO) (IT) SEZ to be developed by GENPACT India on 25 acres of land in Bhubneshwar with estimated investment of Rs 140 crore and employment potential of 6000 persons.
