Cong welcomes HC verdict over Emmanuel Mission

Jaipur, Aug 9 (UNI) The Congress here has welcomed the High Court verdict allowing the Emmanuel Mission to run its various institutions.

State Congress chief B D Kalla said today the BJP government's attempt to seal the Emmanuel institutions and freeze their bank accounts has received a jolt with the High Court order.

"The mission has at least got justice from the High Court even though it could not get it from the state government," Dr Kalla said, charging the state government with acting against these institutions "only on the basis of religion and community." In a significant decision yesterday, the Rajasthan High Court had allowed the functioning of various institutions run by Emmanuel Mission in Kota and defreezing of their bank accounts.

Emmanuel Mission's founder Dr M A Thomas's son Samuel was arrested from Noida recently for distributing the controversial book Haqeeqat' which allegedly contained derogatory remarks about Hindu gods and goddesses, from the mission's premises.

Cases have been lodged against both at Kota's Bhimganjmandi and Udyognagar police stations.

The High Court also accepted the advance bail applications of Dr Thomas and his son.
