Amar Singh meets 'friend' Natwar Singh again

New Delhi, Aug 9: Former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh, who was last night suspended from the primary membership of the Congress party, had another meeting with Samajawadi Party general secretary Amar Singh soon after his party's disciplinary action against him.

The two discussed the latest political developments, SP sources told sources.

They said that Mr Singh, who was out of the capital today, was coming back tomorrow and would see the suspended Congress leader again.

Earlier, Mr Amar Singh had called on Mr Natwar Singh on Friday after the Pathak Authorty Report indicting the latter in the Iraqi Oil for Food programme had leaked out.

As many as 33 MPs, belonging to Mr Amar Singh's Samajwadi Party and to AIADMK and TDP, have supported Mr Natwar Singh's breach of privilege notice against the Prime Minister given in the upper house over the leakage issue.

The Samajwadi Party leader, who describes Mr Natwar Singh as a ''close friend,'' has said that he was the first leader who met Natwar Singh when the Pathak Committee was appointed and told the former External Affairs Minister that attempts are being made to trap him.

The 75-year old diplomat-turned politician, who had to quit as External Affairs minister nine months ago after being named a beneficiary in the oil for food scam that took place during the Saddam Hussein regime, has already declared an "open war" against the Congress and the Prime Minister for leakage of the report and for what he called the government's attempt to frame him while managing a clean chit to the Congress.
