Aluminium production in Q1 FY07 up at 2,73,319 tonnes

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) The total production of aluminium metal in the country in the first quarter of 2006-07 has been pegged at 2,73,319 tonnes, up from 2,27,621 tonnes produced in the same period last year.

Of this, public sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) produced 88,584 tonnes and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO) with 49 per cent Central Government equity, contributed 68,023 tonnes.

The private sector Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) produced 1,07,192 tonnes and Madras Aluminium Company Ltd (MALCO) 9,520 tonnes.

However, the total aluminium production by these companies in June 2006 was 87,088 tonnes against a target of 90,942 tonnes.

During June 2006, NALCO sold 59,671 tonnes of alumina/hydrate and exported 4,798 tonnes of aluminium.
