AICC leasers asked to hammer out inner party bickerings

Shillong, Aug 09 (UNI) The Opposition BJP in Meghalaya today asked the AICC leaders to sort out inner party squabblings at once for the sake of development in the state.

The BJP appeal assumed significance in the backdrop of AICC secretary in-charge Meghalaya Maj. (Retd) Ved Prakash, camping here, trying hard to resolve the infighting in Congress Legislature Party for power.

At least 15 dissident Congress legislators, demanded from AICC president Sonia Gandhi to re-instate former Chief Minister DD Lapang as their CLP leader.

'' How they (dissident Congress MLAs) can term the Rymbai-led government as inefficient in a month time, '' stated BJP Meghalaya State vice-president BB Chettri in a joint press briefing with opposition Independent MLA Billykid Sangma.

Mr Chettri said the present political instability in the state had also put the developmental activities into a standstill as the administration is totally in a confused state of affairs.

If fact, Chief Minister J D Rymbai took over the reins from his predecessor Mr Lapang on June 15, last, after 17 Congress Legislators accused him of indulging in ''manipulative politics''.

The dissident Congress MLAs proposed Mr Lapang's reinstatement after one of the senior Congress Legislators K K Dkhar, a key-figure in toppling the Lapang-led government, was not inducted in the Rymbai -led Ministry.

Accusing the then Lapang-led government as the "most corrupt government", Mr Chettri alleged that Mr Lapang wanted to bounce back to power mainly to protect himself from all scandals he had committed.

Keeping this in view, the senior BJP leader felt the need for the regional parties, the allies of the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, to form an alternative government with the support of the Opposition parties.

Singing in the same lines with the BJP, Independent MLA Billykid Sangma termed his former Congress colleagues as ''power hungers''.

'' Their present move clearly shows that they are only after power, '' asserted Mr Sangma, then a Minister in the Lapang-led Ministry.

Mr Sangma, who had severe ties with the Congress last year, felt that the AICC leaders should sort out the inner squabblings in the Congress at the earliest for the sake of development in the state.
