2.46 lakh K'taka farmers avail farm loans at 4 pc interest
Udupi, Aug 9 (UNI) As many as 2.46 lakh farmers have benefitted from the farm loan at four per cent interest rate, launched by the JD (S)-BJP government, with the total loan assistance amounting to Rs 770 crore, Medical Education and district in-charge Minister V S Acharya said today.
Distributing new ration cards to 1,535 beneficiaries at a function at Kodibettu, about 18 KM from here, he said the state Government had targeted to provide loan assistance of Rs 3,200 crore, benefitting 13 lakh famers by the end of the current fiscal.
Dr Acharya said that of the total 7,500 gram panchayats in the state, only 3,251 had libraries. The government was taking steps to set up rural libraries in the remaining panchayats.
He said that based on a fresh survey conducted in the district, 2,17,683 families were found to be eligible for getting ration cards, including 459 under Annapurna scheme, 17,890 under Anthyodaya scheme, 87,384 under Akshaya scheme and 1,11,970 families under above poverty line category. The new cards would be distributed to all identified beneficiaries by August 15, he added.
