20 villages marooned, 77,000 people shifted in Sangli
Sangli, Maharashtra, Aug 9 (UNI) The number of villages marooned in Western Maharashtra's Sangli district has gone up to 20 today following the continuous rise in the water-level of Krishna and Warna rivers.
Sangli District Collector Rajendra Chavan said this evening that about 77,000 people of 16,069 families from the flood-affected 59 villages have been evacuted and shifted to safer places.
Some 10,857 people out of the total evacuted have been shifted to the 43 relief camps in the district, he informed.
The Krishna river was flowing at the height of 48.6 ft near Sangli city bridge despite some respite from rain today, he added.
