Barasat,Aug 08(UNI) Frustrated villagers today raised a blockade on the solitary road leading to Akrampur Rajbati under Habra police station in North 24 Parganas district to protest police 'inaction' against miscreants involved in manufacturing illicit liquor.

The blockade continued for more than three hours.

Villagers had earlier demonstrated and submitted a memorandum to the police but alleged that the latter remained inactive.

Police removed the blockade assuring the villagers of taking action against the guilty.

Meanwhile, a police team, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Subhas Sen escaped from sustaining bomb injuries as a few bombs were thrown at them by the miscreants involved in making illicit liquor.

Police had a tough time evicting a number of liquor manufacturing units at Ganrapota village near the Indo-Bangla border under Bangaon police station and failed to arrest any of the miscreants.

Police also seized at least 1800 litres of illicit brew along with raw materials worth about Rs 1.5 lakh, Mr Sen said. A number of units were evicted by dismantling the huts.
