Three Nigerians, woman arrested in cyber crime case

Chandigarh, Aug 8 (UNI) In a case of cyber crime, Mohali Police have busted a job racket by arresting four people, including three Nigerians, from Delhi.

Those arrested were identified as George Amagbur, Ifeanyi Riches Samuel and Peter A K, all Nigerians, and Ms Nirija Malik, a resident of Delhi, police said. A laptop and few mobile phones were recovered from them.

Police said the job racket was unearthed when one Mr Manpreet singh of Mohali received an e-mail offering him a job and asking him to deposit 380 Pounds (Rs 33,560) in cash in a particular account. The student got Rs 33,560 deposited in the account. Later he was pressed hard to deposit further amount of 1200 pounds (Rs 96,000) for issuing of traveller cheque.

On the repeated calls from the local contact, Mr Manpreet Singh got suspicious and reported the matter to the Mohali police which registered a case under section 420 IPC on August 3, 2006 and started investigation.

During the course of investigation, the Mohali police found that the e-mail had originated from a service provider in New Delhi. A police party was dispatched to Delhi. Based on the technical evidence, the police party raided and apprehended the accused. Police said more recoveries are likely to be made on the revelations by them.
