TCL aims at 10% market share by 2010, to set up manu hub in India

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) TCL India Holdings Pvt Ltd, the 100-per cent arm of Chinese multinational TCL, today said it aims to ramp up its market share to 6 per cent in 2006, from 4 per cent last year, and is looking at setting up a manufacturing facility in India by next year.

''We are aiming at a 6 per cent market share this year, and a 10 per cent share by 2007, and are in talks to set up a manufacturing facility in India by 2008,'' TCL Sales and Marketing Vice President C M Singh told reporters here on the launch of its range of LCD's, Plasma and CTVs.

He, however refused to give out any further details.

At present the China-based company sells its assembled consumer durable goods in India through vendors, and is keen to gradually shift its manufacturing base to India.

The company's launch of the 'Largest Range' of 45 models across different categories include the 42-inch two Plasma models priced at Rs 1,29,990, the LCD range from 15 to 42 inches across 12 models priced between Rs 27,990 to Rs 1,39,990 and Real Projection TV (RPTV) in two 43 to 52 inch models.

''We sold 22 million sets globally in 2005, and are targeting a sale of 30 million sets this year. We are looking at a sale of 1 million CTVs by 2007,'' Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh further said that the company plans to focus on high-end showrooms, to be called 'TCL Universe' in major cities across the country, and will open 30 exclusive showrooms across India offering complete home entertainment and home care, soon.

At present, the company has 126 service centres, out of which 94 will be made exclusive to TCL by end of August.

The company's R&D hub in India is based in Chennai and has a total of 40 engineers developing technology for India as well as other nations.

Globally, the company has R&D hubs in Germany, US, China, Vietnam with a employee base of 1200 engineers.

TCL is a emerging consumer electronics global major with presence in more than 100 countries and seven state-of-the-art R&D centres worldwide.

In India, TCL has 24 branch offices and a 5,000 strong dealer network supported by 120 service franchisees.
