Police on the look-out for Maoist Action Team Commander
Hyderabad, Aug 8 (UNI) The city and Cyberabad police are taking the help of police personnel deployed in Naxal-infested districts like Warangal, Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Visakhapatnam as Maoist action teams are reportadly the twin cities.
According to police sources, the city police are on the look out for Andhra Pradesh Committee Maoist Action Team Commander T Vasudeva Rao alias Aashanna and nine other members for the past one week.
They are also conducting house-to-house searches for Aashanna in some areas in city. The police are also showing his photographs to the residents in the hope they can identify him.
Though Andhra Pradesh DGP Swaranjit Sen, went on record that the police have reports of ten Naxals moving incognito in three teams in the city, they could not pick up anyone till date.
On the other hand, if going by past experience of naxal attacks in the city and the outskirts, the ultras always had the upper hand carrying out their operations successfully. Two decades ago senior IPS officer Vyas, the founder of Grey Hounds Speciali Force to tackle the Naxal problem in the state, was killed while he was jogging in Lal Bahadur stadium in the heart of the city. In 1991, the Naxals also abducted Congress MLA, P Sudhir Kumar, son of former Union Minister P Shiv Shankar from Himayatnagar area in the city.
However, they later released him.
In March 2000, the Naxals killed Madhav Reddy, the then Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Panchayat Raj Minister in a landmine blast on the city outskirts. The naxals also killed a senior IPS officer Umesh Chandra, shooting him down from close range in broad daylight September 4, 1999.
